The Centre has directed app stores to remove three Chinese mobile applications, BAT-BMS, Lossigy and Epoch-i-ion, after they were allegedly misused to remotely disable battery-operated vehicles in India, official sources said on Friday amid rising concerns over cybersecurity risks in connected mobility systems.

The action follows the circulation of several social media videos showing electric rickshaws being rendered inoperable through the BAT-BMS application. The clips raised concerns over third-party apps gaining access to critical battery functions and the security measures built into battery management systems used in electric vehicles.

According to government sources, the three applications were found to have been misused to remotely disable battery-operated vehicles. Authorities have also decided to block any other application found facilitating similar misuse.
