ATHLETICS COACH REPRESENTS BRITAIN AT TRANSPLANT GAMES

- By LUDWIK LIPIEC

AFTER overcoming decades of health problems including kidney failure, an athletics coach is set to represent Great Britain in the European Transplant Games.

For more than 20 years, Hafeez Ahmad, 44, from Levenshulme, has worked to support disabled children, adults and those with cancer.

His mission is to fly the flag and 'show what an organ recipient can do, to inspire children with disabilities to pursue sports.

In childhood, Hafeez contracted meningitis which weakened the left side of his body and impaired his speech. Later, as a young adult, he experienced kidney failure and relied on dialysis, eventually able to receive a kidney transplant in 2013.
