Midfield general has makings of a Kop captain
-
GARY MCALLISTER has urged Liverpool to hand Dominik Szoboszlai a new, improved deal at Anfield.
And that’s because the former Kop hero believes the Hungarian has the potential to become a future captain.
Szoboszlai (left) is more than halfway through the five-year deal he signed when arriving from RB Leipzig for £60million in July 2023.
Liverpool are keen to reward the midfielder for the progress that saw him emerge as a key figure in last year's title triumph, and Szoboszlai has made it clear he wants to stay on.
McAllister joined the Reds in July 2000 at the age of 35 and went on to win a cup treble a year later — including glory in the UEFA Cup Final (celebrating, bottom).
And the Scot has urged his old club to get a new deal agreed for Szoboszlai.
McAllister said: “I’m sure that as we speak, that will be something Liverpool are looking at.
“When you get into that realm of under two years, alarm bells should start going off a wee bit.
