Kerala's Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan has escalated the political and legal battle over the proposed sale of a 49 per cent stake in Vizhinjam Port by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) to Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), the port-operating arm of Switzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), by formally approaching the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

In separate communications sent on Friday, Vijayan urged SEBI to examine what he described as a “materially incomplete” disclosure made by Adani Ports on 19 June regarding the proposed transaction. He alleged that the company failed to disclose that the mandatory prior approval of the Kerala government, required under the 2015 concession agreement governing the Vizhinjam International Seaport project, had not been obtained before announcing the deal.
