India raises concern over rising civilian deaths in Lebanon
Financial Express Chennai
|April 11, 2026
IN A MOVE aimed at restoring the diplomatic balance between Israel and Iran, India Friday expressed “deep concern” over the large number of civilian casualties in Lebanon and underlined that “observing international law, and respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of states is essential”.
This is a significant statement from Delhi given that its position has been seen favouring Israel ever since the Israeli offensive in Gaza in 2023 which later expanded to Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah.
It is aimed at restoring the balance with Iran, the benefactor of the Lebanese government and Hezbollah over the last several decades. The latest Israeli strikes on Lebanon, considered to be the most intense targeting of civilians in years, is threatening the US - Iran ceasefire announcement.
