'Justice for Matimu Chauke'
Capricorn Review
|September 17, 2025
THE Malamulele Magistrate's Court has reserved judgment in the bail application of Charles Phakula, a 45-year-old man accused of murder and carjacking in connection with the 2019 killing of a school teacher.
The ruling was expected on Wednesday this week, and the accused would have remained in custody until then. Phakula appeared in court last Tuesday, seeking formal bail. Outside the courtroom, family members and residents from Makumeke Mxadzi gathered in protest, some holding placards reading 'Justice for Matimu Chauke' and demanding that bail be denied.
