'Treasure trove' of maps and documents were on their way to rubbish tip

MAPS and documents charting an area’s history have been unearthed during a council's fire risk assessment.

Dating from the 1930s to the 1970s, the documents include weather charts, maps and drawings, many of which could be copied and shared, with the originals preserved for future generations.

Some are records from Boston Borough Council, others from the rural district council, before the 1974 local government reorganisation.

The council's deputy leader, Mike Gilbert (Blue Revolution - Staniland), said: “We had a fire risk assessment done. These were all rolled up into a huge cylinder and just propped in a corner.
