FOUR PEOPLE ARRESTED AND 50 CRIMES CLEARED UP IN JUST ONE DAY

POLICE chiefs have vowed to tackle shoplifting in Boston and say they're planning to crack down on 'persistent' offenders.

Members of Boston Borough Council's overview and scrutiny committee heard that Lincolnshire Police has been working with local organisations to identify repeat shoplifters and the force is planning to specifically target those offenders.

At a meeting on Tuesday, February 10, Councillor Andy Izard (Independent Witham) asked what the police force was doing to tackle shoplifting in Boston.

He added: "Speaking to our business owners, shoplifting seems to be on the rise and obviously some of it gets reported, but some of it doesn't.

"I was just wondering again, with the allocation of new funding, whether you've got anything you could particularly look at to help our local businesses who suffer financial losses through shoplifting?"

Lincolnshire Police has received an additional £12 million from the Government as part of an exceptional financial support package, in recognition of the financial pressures that it's facing.
