Counterterror scheme funding cuts ‘are a risk’

COUNCILLOR CONCERNED OVER £500K REDUCTION IN BRUM'S GRANT
A BIRMINGHAM councillor has said he is “seriously concerned” by funding for the Prevent counterterror scheme reportedly being slashed despite “ongoing risks” in the city.
Prevent is a national programme that aims to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism, with the Home Office allocating dedicated funds to local authorities with the highest threat.
The government said it works to ensure that people who are susceptible to radicalisation are offered appropriate interventions and communities are protected against “radicalising influences”
