When you spot an emerging demand for a particular product or service, the early innovators generally are the winners in the game as they take advantage of the first mover advantage. In India, driving a car in congested areas means that the driver has to frequently change gears and engage clutch movements that can be tiring. In such a scenario, automatic or semi-automatic transmission cars are still a relatively unexplored solution. These technologies come with the added benefit of being fuel efficient as well. Till, now, most cars sold come with manual transmissions. So automatic cars pose a gap in the market.
Tata AutoComp has big plans for supporting the automotive ecosystem with a host of automatic transmission solutions.
In fact, the company will be setting up a dedicated unit for manufacturing compact dual-clutch transmissions (DCT) in Chakan, Maharashtra, which will be operational in the next six months (sometime in Q1FY24), a senior company executive told Autocar Professional.
To be set up with an investment of over Rs 500 crore, the facility will have an initial production output of 1,00,000 units. The company is also factoring in plans for expansion as demand increases.
