Wild-card playoff: Buffalo 27, Indianapolis 24

Stefon Diggs and the rest of the passing game ultimately came through in the end

what went right

•Continued success in the passing game when it mattered — This game may not have been as easy as so many others this season for Buffalo, but Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs and the rest of the passing game ultimately came through in the end. After a slow start, Allen finished with 324 yards, 2 TDs and no INTs along with 54 yards and one TD on the ground; it was another record-setting day for the quarterback (see below). Stefon Diggs was remarkable once again and had an incredible catch on one deep ball. Cole Beasley gutted it out at less than 100 percent and was a difference-maker, and Gabriel Davis had not one but two incredible catches that stood after replay challenges.

A successful defense against a Hail Mary!— The Bills exorcised a whole lot of demons by emphatically knocking Indianapolis’ Hail Mary attempt to the ground. Phew.

QUARTERBACKS: TOP AVAILABLE FREE AGENTS

Dak Prescott, Cowboys 6-2 • 235 pounds • 27 years old A solid starter who has a nice TD-INT ratio over his first five seasons (104-40), Prescott is an accurate thrower and very mobile. However, he’s coming off a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle, so it remains to be seen if this will impact his game moving forward.

TIGHT ENDS: TOP AVAILABLE FREE AGENTS

Hunter Henry, Chargers 6-5 • 250 pounds • 29 years old A very talented player, Henry has had issues staying healthy, unable to complete an NFL season, including missing the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL. But when healthy, he’s a terrific all-around tight end who really connected with Justin Herbert in 2020 with 60 catches. Henry is very good at finding holes in zone coverage.

Howard's performance should be saluted

We were fortunate to witness a truly dominant performance this season by cornerback Xavien Howard. It wasn’t only his 10 interceptions, tying a longstanding team record and the most in the NFL since 2007, it was the way he played with such confidence and at such a high level of efficiency.

The Dolphins clearly saved their worst for last, losing against the Buffalo Bills, 56-26, in a game that could have meant a trip to the playoffs. Instead, it provided a hollow ending to an otherwise encouraging season.
