Formed as a reaction to Freddie Mercury’s death, little did singer Harry Hamilton expect that his tribute band Flash Harry would still be going strong more than two decades later.

The frontman explained: “When Freddie died we decided to put a band together and play a night in Lurgan town hall to celebrate his music. It sold out really quickly so we decided to do a couple more nights and really that’s how it all started. From that one night it kept progressing and we were being asked to do more and more gigs.

“People kept turning up and we kept playing and then before you know it we’re 25 years down the line.”

On March 15th the band celebrate their 25th anniversary and from small beginnings in the town hall the five-piece now have gigs in the Royal Albert Hall, Dublin’s O2, the Waterfront and the Odyssey under their belt.

A series of gigs around the north and south of Ireland over the next couple of months will mark this milestone and for Harry the recipe to their success is simple.

“Our success is really down to the strength of Queen’s music. The fact that it’s continued to stay popular over the years is what’s kept us relevant. We’ve been very fortunate but we put that down to the quality of the material. Our main aim has always been to try and do that justice.

“Queen’s music is best enjoyed in a live setting and with other like-minded people. We give people a chance to experience that.”

While the 52 year old always appreciated Queen’s music and was fortunate enough to catch them live twice he wasn’t the super fan that some people expect.

To Patterson Plants Bulbs In Containers For Spring

Planting bulbs for next spring is something I look forward to each year. Searching out scented daffodils and feathery tulips is something I enjoy and in my case, as I replace them every year (though you don’t have to), there’s usually something new.
