Guy Next Door

Guy Next Door

My partner and I adopted a pet together – and we just broke up. Who gets to keep Mr Wolfie?ANSWER This is a tough one. First off, who truly loves Mr Wolfie more? If one of you was the primary caregiver to this fine example of canine grandeur, then that person should probably get first dibs on Mr Wolfie. If you got Mr Wolfie and Ms Tiger at the same time, then maybe there should be an even split. Then there are the living conditions. If one of you lives in a small apartment and the other in a house with a garden, perhaps it would be kindest if the one with the house gets to accommodate Señor Wolfie. What about hours? If one of you is stuck in a 9 to 5/8 to 7 existence with little time to walk, feed and dote on a pet, while the other is a freelancer with flexitime, that too is a consideration. Bottom line is this: as hard as it is to stay sane, rational and fair in a breakup, you need to do what’s best for the pet. Not your ego.
