AS IT SIT here writing this, we received the news that Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s airplane had crashed as he was traveling with his family to the race in Bristol, Tennessee.

Heroes And Throwdowns

Thankfully everyone escaped. But it got me thinking about our sports heroes. When a friend posted about this event, I responded, “It was like I heard the news about a family member.” But why did I feel this way? Dale Jr. has never attended a Clevenger family reunion. Shoot, I’ve never even met him at a racetrack. But I feel like I know him.

Dale Jr. was my racing hero. I have his hats, shirts and even a cooler from his days of driving the No. 8 car. When he retired, I was worried about who I would follow next, who would be my hero.

Chemical Spill in Delaware River has Philly residents on their toes

On Sunday, March 26, 2023, I was on the campus of Drexel University, waiting to watch my middle granddaughter as she performed in a dance recital with her dance school. I was out in the lobby area when all of a sudden, my cell phone started buzzing with that special sound that indicates an alert is being sent out. In my head, the first thing I thought before I actually looked down at my phone was that another child had “gone missing” and that it was an Amber Alert. But this time, it wasn’t an Amber Alert. It was an alert warning Philadelphia residents about possible contamination in our drinking water if you are someone who drinks tap water.
