Self Pleasure Addiction

Before you flip to the next page, scoff or look to see if the person behind you is seeing what you are reading, just relax, it’s 2019 and we can actually have this discussion. Jada Pinkett Smith’s grandmother taught her how to please herself when she was nine years old (yes, you read that right). This eventually led to her addiction, and she claims at the peak of her addiction she would orgasm on average five times a day.

According to Clare Faulkner, a psychosexual and relationship therapist, most addictions start during adolescence. Masturbation is still a touchy and uncomfortable topic to broach. It is even harder for someone who is an addict to come clean and seek help because of the stigma that is associated with it. Then why do you feel good while masturbating?

Just like how drug addicts get high and get in a state of utopia, the masturbation kind of high is the result of a neurotransmitter in the brain called dopamine which is also known as the ‘feel-good’ hormone because it gives one a euphoric or blissful feeling.

SIGNS YOU MAY BE ADDICTED

1 You can’t stop or won’t stop

There is no specific number that can be used as a weighing scale to see if you masturbate too much. However, if you realize that you are masturbating more frequently than you used to when you started out, then there is the reason for you to panic.

2 You hurt yourself
