PEOPLE living in a Welsh seaside town dubbed Britain's best have won a battle against a giant 75ft phone mast after it was called a "gargantuan eyesore".

The towering 5G mast was set to boost the Vodafone signal at a holiday park. But protesters launched two online petitions against the plans in New Quay, Ceredigion, gathering a total of 540 signatures. Fears were raised about a nearby family home and the impact on the landscape.

Planners refused the proposal before Freshwave Facilities Limited appealed the decision, arguing it would boost signals for the surrounding area.

Council chiefs have now rejected the appeal after finding the mast would cause "significant harm" to the character and appearance of the town. It comes after the resort was named top out of 20 other seaside towns by travel experts from Holiday Cars.
