Joe wants to keep things clean to aid Valiants' bid

JOE Gauci wants to help Port Vale climb the League One table - starting with a home clash against bottom club Plymouth Argyle today.

- Clive Youlton

The 25-year-old has been excellent in goal for the Valiants this season during his loan spell from Aston Villa.

Without him, they may have conceded more goals than they have.

Gauci admitted he has been working on his distribution with goalkeeping coach Gary Walsh as this is an area he feels he can improve.

And he is mentally switched on ahead of the game, knowing he may have to be at his best given Vale's porous defence prior to the 0-0 draw against Wycombe Wanderers last time out.

"For me it's something I've always said to myself, it's talk and move," he said in the club's press conference.

"If I'm moving and talking and getting to my back line, then I am mentally and physically in the game and ready to go.

"So I'm hoping it's a game where I don't have much to do but mentally you always know there will be one or two moments especially in this league.

"There will be one or two moments you will be called upon. It might not be a shot on goal, it might be a ball in behind or a cross into the box and I have to be ready for those moments."
