Government says role has failed to improve confidence in police
STAFFORDSHIRE will no longer have a police and crime commissioner - from 2028.
Tory Ben Adams, below, is the current incumbent overseeing the work of Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
But the role will disappear for good when Mr Adams' current term of office ends in 2028.
The announcement was made by the Government yesterday.
Home Office minister Sarah Jones said the role, introduced in November 2012, had not worked, with the public having little awareness of who their PCC is, and is showing little sign in improving confidence in police.
