Brehaut delighted as Leek continue their momentum

TWO wins on the bounce have lifted Leek Town, ahead of another big test at Whitby Town on Saturday.

- Clive Youlton

A vital 2-0 Northern Premier League victory last Tuesday against Ashton United was followed by an impressive 1-0 success against National League North outfit Scarborough Athletic in the FA Trophy second round on Saturday. It set up a third-round clash at another Step 2 side, Southport.

A first win in seven in the league was such a huge result and manager Josh Brehaut said: “Tuesday was really important for us. We were always going to be at it on Saturday [higher-league opposition], it's the nature of football.

“What pleased me most was the players didn’t have one eye on that game going into Tuesday.

“It would have been easy to be distracted.

“But given we hadn't won in a long time in the league, to have three points on the board going into Saturday was a bonus and we were pleased.”

The cup is a nice add-on and he continued: “In the grand scheme of things, while we are in the cup competition it’s great but we are not going to be in the cup competition forever.
