A BURGLAR who targeted sheltered accommodation then subjected a judge to "vile misogynistic abuse" has been jailed.

- ROB KENNEDY

Kenneth Roberts broke into a flat at the housing complex as one resident slept, stealing his bank card and cash.

He also targeted the manager's office and communal areas, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

During a previous hearing, he subjected Judge Amanda Rippon to verbal abuse when told he would be remanded in custody. Now he has been jailed for burglary, fraud and contempt of court.

The break-in happened on June 26 last year at Beaumont Lodge, Sunderland, which is sheltered accommodation for people aged 55 and over.

One of the residents was asleep when Roberts broke into his flat and stole items including his wallet, containing his bank cars, £90 in cash and a jar containing further money.

He then used the stolen bank card to make purchases worth £87 at a fuel station before the card was declined at another store.

Roberts also broke into the manager's office at the complex, removing paperwork from a filing cabinet and keys.
