Teen's death sparks allegations of neglect

A social media post accusing the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar (CPH-Carcar) of alleged medical neglect has triggered public outrage and renewed scrutiny of the provincial-run facility following the death of a 15-year-old road accident victim in the early hours of January 23.

The controversy began after Dennielle Arriannah Delica, who uses the Facebook name “Ya Na,” detailed the circumstances surrounding the treatment of her younger brother, identified only by the alias “Jikoy,” who was rushed unconscious to CPH-Carcar after a road accident.

In her post, Delica alleged that her brother did not receive proper medical attention, claiming his wounds were not adequately cleaned and that a manual pump was used to assist his breathing. She also questioned the hospital’s failure to immediately refer him to a higher-level medical facility despite his critical condition.

“Liman ka ang mga samad ni Jikoy tawn wa limpyuhi ang tagtungod pa ang ni trapo og wipes para malimpyo,” Delica wrote in a portion of her post.

According to Delica, the family sought to have Jikoy transferred to Chong Hua Hospital, a private facility, but the referral allegedly did not push through because the online referral had yet to be acknowledged. She claimed hospital staff insisted on following protocol despite the urgency of the situation.
