Welcome to the island in the very special month of February - we celebrate the gaining of independence on the 4th with deep feeling. It is also the height of the tourist season when the flowering trees are in bloom. If you are lucky enough to be in Colombo around 28th Feb/March 1st, you will be able to witness a spectacular Buddhist Pageant, the Navam Perahera a parade of dressed-up elephants, dancers, drummers and saffron robed Buddhist clergy. Even though ‘Team Bob’ biking team couldn’t reach their destination Arugambay across the country, their write-up gives an indication how thrilling Sri Lanka could be if you have the right imagination. Try a visit to the Independence Hall one evening, the ambience is unbelievable with the almost holistic edifice in the background. While in the ancient cities area, in Anuradhapura you will have a chance to at least have a meal at the Sanctuary or Lakeside brimming with character and atmosphere in beautiful surroundings. Food Court Colombo will encourage you to go restaurant hopping tasting the flavor of many authentic dishes, some of course with a twist. Thali’s a must have experience, for lovers of specialty Indian vegetarian food.
