Repairs to fountain damaged by vandals are set to cost 'thousands'

A VICTORIAN fountain in Tiverton’s People's Park is to be repaired after vandals destroyed part of the ornate stonework during the summer.
The Victorian fountain is now a tribute to the NHS workers for their work during the Covid pandemic
The fountain, gifted to the town in 1888 by Reverend George Hadow, was decorated with three carved birds.
Two of the heads were torn off in the attack, leaving only one intact. The figures are stylised long-necked birds, with pronounced beaks and feather detailing.
The fountain had only recently been restored in September 2021 following a community-led project by Allies Mid Devon, which raised around £10,000 in just six months.
The work, carried out by specialist stonemasons, brought the once-neglected structure back to prominence as a centrepiece of the park.
