More residents move into a controversial housing block
The Tiverton Gazette
|October 28, 2025
TENANTS are now settling into a controversial riverside housing development in Tiverton, a site once described by critics as being "steamrollered in against the wishes of the public" and compared to "giant tombstones".
St George's Court, developed by Mid Devon District Council's now-defunct housing arm 3Rivers Developments Ltd, has welcomed more residents into the remaining apartments this October. The site includes 28 social rent and 11 affordable rent properties, ranging from one-bedroom flats to three-bedroom family homes.
The development, which began construction in August 2018, was built as part of the council's ambition to increase social housing. However, it has been the focus of intense public scrutiny and financial concern since the collapse of 3Rivers Developments Ltd in 2023.
