A Division opening-day wins for Thorverton and Cullompton
The Tiverton Gazette
|May 06, 2025
THORVERTON pulled off an unlikely win at Barton on the opening day of the A Division season.
Barton’s new signing Craig Eaves = lured away from Brixham - pickedup four Thorverton wickets for 24 runs as the visitors were bowled out for 130. Fin Last bagged three for 16.
Only George Daldorph (21) in the top seven made into the 20s as Eaves scythed through the order.
Thorverton had degenerated to 65 for eight at one stage before Ben Slaviero (31) joined Daldorph for a stand of 35 that made a huge difference to the outcome.
Barton’s top order was picked apart by a combination of Daldorph (2-21), Slaviero (4-14) and Shane Yelverton (2-17) as they subsided to 29 for five then 32 for six in reply.
Veteran Greg Shelton delayed the inevitable while batting on for 15 not out from 79 balls - all in ones and twos - before the returning Slaviero and Ben Hardwicke (2-11) pried out the stragglers.
