Team set to scale three peaks in aid of needy families
FIFTY friends and family of an inspirational football figure are to tackle a 16-mile hike covering the three highest peaks in Staffordshire to raise money for the charity set up in her name.
Wendy Jones, of Baddeley Green, was well-known for her volunteering at FC Hanley and the Staffordshire Junior Football League, working to ensure children across the county could afford to play the sport.
The mum-of-two was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in June 2023. She died just 16 weeks later, aged 60.
Wendy's son Nathan said the 'brilliant' GP Dr Konstadina Kostakopoulou, of Baddeley Green Surgery, referred her to the hospital, where tests revealed she had pancreatic cancer.
"By the time they find out it was already too far gone," he said. "It was terminal. She was always a fighter, but there was nothing she could do this time."
