BAND OF BROTHERS:

- By JANUAR JUNIOR AGUJA

Say “Asan man ‘ta?” many times fast, and you’ll start to hear that it almost sounds like “Samantha.” That wordplay is the title of the latest single from Cebuano pop-rock band The Qings, composed of the Quibranza brothers: Luis III, Angelo, Paolo, Alfonso, and Francesco.

It’s an upbeat love song where the singing protagonist questions his muse about where they are mentally in their relationship — true to its question, “Where are we heading next?”

“It’s about the dynamics of a relationship where, even if a couple is in the same place physically, they are not quite on the same page — possibly due to different career aspirations and priorities in life,” Luis, the band’s chief songwriter, told The FREEMAN.

After releasing their EP “Parallels” last year, which consisted of re-recordings of songs Luis, Angelo, and Paolo made under their alternative band “Bethany,” “Samantha” marks a special milestone for the Cebu homegrown group as it’s their first song released in their native tongue.

“Releasing ‘Samantha’ comes from a place where I am at a point in my life that I need to find that creative spark,” Luis explained. “We made this song in Bisaya so that everyone can relate.”
