K. Annamalai is touted to be the blue-eyed boy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The IPO officer turned politician, who contesting the Lok Sabha election from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, has become a phenomenon, not just in Coimbatore, but across the country. In an exclusive interview to Megha Sharma NewsX, he spoke his journey from as Indian Police Service to politics/
Q: I was speaking to women, I was speaking to young children, I was speaking to elderly. They all have so much love for you. And suddenly, Annamalai has become a phenomenon
A: Oh, no, no, madam. I am a very normal person. I am not a politician. Let me put it like that. I am three years into politics, but I am not a full-time politician. I do things my own way. I was a cop for some time. Even now, I call myself a farmer first. I do active farming, I run a foundation. And because of the responsibility I have now as the state president of BJP, it has become a fulltime now, literally. So maybe people like that, that I’m very different. Maybe I’m very original. And many times I get into controversy also, but that’s the way I am.
Q: You spoke about how you have been a cop, you were serving in Bengaluru South. You are a farmer. You studied at the IIM. You’ve studied engineering here in Coimbatore. So why this sudden shift from being a technocrat, being a management student, being a cop and then getting into politics? I know it’s a very unlikely path.
