SIR 'exercise designed to destroy democracy', says Congress, announces mega rally in Dec

With the Election Commission carrying out special intensive revision of voter rolls in 12 states and union territories, the Congress on Tuesday called the exercise as “a process of destroying g democracy and opposition” and deleting genuine voters and announced that it will be hold a mega rally in the national capital in December first week when the Parliament's Winter Session.

The Congress held a meeting of party state in-charges, state presidents, secretaries and senior leaders at the party headquarters here where party chief Mallikarjun Kharge chaired the meeting and was also attended by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, former union ministers and CWC members P Chidambaram, Avinash Pandey, Sachin Pilot, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Salman Khurshid, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury among others.

The meeting lasted for over two hours, where the senior leaders had a detailed discussion on the SIR exercise.
