Legend of Scottish children's TV Glen Michael dies at 99

HE was known to generations of Scots children as the friendly face with a talking lamp as a friend who introduced their favourite cartoons every week. And Glen Michael is now being remembered as a “wonderful performer and personality” after his death at the age of 99.

The presenter worked with the likes of Billy Connolly, Rikki Fulton, and Stanley Baxter during a glittering career. But he is best known for his Glen Michael's Cartoon Cavalcade show that ran for 26 years on STV between 1966 and 1992.

Alongside Paladin the talking lamp, Totty the Robot, and dogs Rudi and Rusti, Michael broadcast a host of cartoon favourites into homes across the country, while having your birthday card read out on air was one of the greatest thrills of childhood.

Many signed up with gusto to his WOOF Club - World Organisation Of Fidos! The only rule to joining was to be kind to animals and you got a badge in return.
