MILES KANE Sunlight In The Shadows ★★★★ (Easy Eye Sound)

Kane has always been a musician who plays well with others. His most successful foray has been teaming up with Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner in The Last Shadow Puppets, but this latest solo album (this sixth) benefits from the input of Black Keys guitarist Dan Auerbach, who has lured Miles to his label. Auerbach shares Kane’s love of all things retro, and his influence is obvious on Coming Down The Road while the Marc Bolan glamicity is on full power for tracks like Electric Flower and Without You. Kane worked with Iraina Mancini on her last album and opener Love Is Cruel maintains that dramatic feel.

LITTLE FEAT The Last Record Album ✰✰✰✰ (Rhino)

Little Feat were an American band that were unfairly underappreciated on this side of the pond, but still had a devoted following. This was their fifth album, from 1975, and it benefits from the recent remastering and repackaging campaign for its 50th anniversary. A bountiful 4CD set contains the original album sounding refreshed, sweet and soulful, a dozen demos and outtakes (many previously unreleased) on disc 2, and two CDs capturing the band live in Boston just after the album had been released. Concerts always capture the Feat better than studio recordings, so this is an added delight.
