PATERSON IS INTENSE BUT FAIR, SAYS MCDONALD

ROD McDonald is enjoying his starting role under Martin Paterson at Notts County.

The 33-year-old has started the last four games, having missed the opening two fixtures of the new season, playing at the centre of a back three in Paterson’s system.

He was signed last summer under the previous head coach Stuart Maynard, who preferred to utilise him as a squad player who could fill in where needed in the back line.

“It's enjoyable (to be starting),” said McDonald.

“I missed out on starting the playoff games to end last season, which was a bit of a kick in the teeth but you've just got to move on.

“I think it’s the first time since I've been at Notts that I’m playing in my actual position.

“I'll do a job for the team wherever I’m put.
