Village cemetery expansion plans
Leek Post and Times
|July 16, 2025
A VILLAGE cemetery is set to be expanded to meet future demand for burial space.
-
Endon with Stanley Parish Council is seeking permission for an extension to the existing lawn cemetery at the far end of St Luke’s Churchyard.
A proposed layout of the Endon site submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council demonstrated how 181 new burial plots could be located, alongside 14 cremation plots. The land is currently classed as agricultural.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the application said: “The requirement for the expansion land acknowledges that the availability of space within the existing lawn cemetery is running out and provisions are necessary to react to the future needs of the village. The proposed site, sitting alongside the existing lawn cemetery, allows the pathways and facilities serving the current to be shared with the proposed site while providing for burial plots to serve the village for the foreseeable future.
“Due to the nature of this proposal, there is minimal impact on the appearance of the site. The existing hedgerows are retained to form the boundary treatments to the site, answering the requirement from original application.
