COUNCIL tax in England will rise nearly £400 a year by 2030 if current trends continue; but some councils may rise by £600, see if yours is among them.

Households in England are currently paying an average of £1,770 a year in council tax, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

That's up by £102 compared to the 2024/25 financial year, which was itself up by £90 compared to the previous year.

In fact, council tax bills have been rising steadily every year since 2016.

A decade ago, the country’s average council tax bill was £1,078 a year, meaning that bills have gone up by an average of £69 each year in that time.
