Even without scoring, Cunha showed he is the maverick United fans have been clamouring for

- BY CHRIS MCKENNA X @cmckennasport

WHEN Matheus Cunha collected the ball in his own half and ran through the Arsenal defence, he took Old Trafford fans out of their seats.

Few have done that in recent times.

Cristiano Ronaldo on his return maybe. Bruno Fernandes at times but he’s more master than maverick.

That's what Cunha is - a maverick. Old Trafford loves those. They adored Eric Cantona, they hailed Wayne Rooney.

The summer signing from Wolves is a million miles away from reaching the heights those two did.

But he’s the type of player that United fans will fall in love with. That love affair started on Sunday against Arsenal, even though he didn't even score.

That first-half run (inset) ended with him just out of steam, his weak shot was easy to save.
