AUGUST FINAL IS BACK ON AGENDA

AUGUST All-Ireland Finals are firmly on the GAA’s agenda again after a recommendation from a working group chaired by former Director General Paraic Duffy was given the green light at the weekend.

A Central Council meeting agreed to send forward proposals to GAA Congress for the 2027 Fixtures Masterplan, which if passed would see the All-Ireland Finals move back a fortnight into August.

The football decider is currently played on the last weekend in July, but under the new plan would move out to the second weekend in August, with the hurling decider also going back two weekends to the last Sunday in July.

This would also mean an extra week between the two finals which are currently played on back to back weekends.
