I CAN'T lie, it has been heartbreaking watching Paul Gascoigne over the past few days, looking utterly broken, sharing his story.

Gazza needed brutal truth to battle demons

REVELATIONS Gascoigne interview

Especially at the end of the Good Morning interview as Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley wrapped it up by pointing fans in the direction of his new book, Eight, for more insight.

"I'll sign it for you for 20 quid," Gascoigne joked.

Susanna swiftly glossed over the brief but uncomfortable silence that followed by reminding viewers affected by Gascoigne's issues that help is out there.

And Gascoigne's issues are many - drugs, anger and the alcohol abuse that saw him describe himself last year as "a sad drunk" living in his agent's spare room.

A national treasure, he has been on a number of platforms over the past few days now.

And on all of them it has been hard not to notice the pity etched on the faces of the people interviewing him, especially as yet more of his tears flow.
