TOWER BLOCKS GO DAYS WITHOUT RUNNING WATER

AROUND "1,000" tower block residents were yesterday into their third day without running water after a pipe burst.

The supply was cut to Medway Tower, Severn Tower and Thames Tower, off Cromwell Street in Nechells, on Monday morning to allow for maintenance work.

But an underground pipe was damaged and it was taking three days for a replacement to be installed and the supply turned back on.

Some residents were left scrambling around asking surrounding homes and the Quba Masjid on Oliver Street for water. They were also heading to the Free@Last community centre, off Nechells Park Road, to fill up containers with water and use the showers.

Householders also claim they either were not told about the original works or were given less than 10 minutes' warning to fill up before the supply was turned off.
