Goa, steeped in a rich history of four hundred and fifty years under Portuguese rule, naturally embodies a fusion of cultures and customs. This influence permeates various aspects of life in the region, notably in its art, culture, customs, traditions, cuisine, and, most prominently, architecture. From the grand colonial houses predominantly owned by the Goan Catholic community to the intricate designs of churches and historic government buildings, the Portuguese legacy is unmistakably imprinted across the landscape.

Among the vibrant tapestry of Goa's cultural heritage, the capital city of Panaji stands out as a focal point of Portuguese influence. Once the headquarters of the Portuguese administration, Panaji emerged as a hub of cultural amalgamation following the evacuation from Old Goa due to the plague outbreak.
