DESIGN FOR THE JETLAGGED

September - November 2025

Colours and textures affect our well-being in the hotels we stay at, but their carefully curated interiors can go further, inspiring us to evoke wellness through the design of our own abodes long after we have left these vacation retreats.

DESIGN FOR THE JETLAGGED

Nothing recharges us like a vacation. Whether it involves staying at a secluded oasis with immersive wellness activities or a contemporary hotel in the bustle of a foreign city, getting away just seems to do the trick, allowing us to switch off from work and make core memories in unforgettable places. Returning home means leaving behind the carefree days of relaxation and self-care, back to the everyday hustle and routine.

Recognising the role these holidays play in improving their physical and mental well-being, many homeowners incorporate elements reminiscent of these getaways when they design their homes back in Singapore. Think dark, polished marble vanities in the bathroom and dim lighting in the bedroom; these design choices may seem purely aesthetic, but they go beyond the visual, setting the mood for a restful ambience that promotes wellness day after day. It’s a reminder that, even when we're not on holiday, we need to take care of ourselves.

From 21 Carpenter right here in Singapore to Oshom Bali in Indonesia, here is how five hotels across Asia weave colour, texture, lighting, and other key design features into their restful interiors, offering plenty of inspiration to draw on when it comes to designing your own home interiors.

SINGAPORE

Previously a notable remittance house founded in 1936, 21 Carpenter stands at the historic intersection of Chinatown and Clarke Quay, nowadays an award-winning boutique hotel transformed by architecture firm WOHA. The hotel has been recognised for its intricate, thoughtful design choices, preserving the building's rich heritage in a meeting of past and present.
