Our Sun Could Be Heading For A Slump

An analysis of past solar activity suggests the Sun may be on course for a new Maunder Minimum.
The activity of our Sun in terms of the number of sunspots, flares and coronal mass ejections varies over the course of an 11-year cycle. But these cycles are not all equal – some are particularly active, whereas others occur in very low minimums. The Maunder Minimum from about 1645 to 1715 was a particularly quiet period. The question is whether there is a pattern behind when these ‘grand minimums’ occur.
