Dr Ryland Morgans In Profile

Combining his position at Everton with his role as Wales’ Head of Performance, Dr Ryland Morgans has extensive experience from spells at various football clubs in the Football League.

He initially spent time at Northampton Town as their First Team fitness coach between July 2004 and May 2006, and was involved as the Cobblers secured promotion from League Two under manager Colin Calderwood.

He replicated that success when following Calderwood to then League One side Nottingham Forest to take over as Head of Fitness, with the Tricky Trees gaining promotion to the Championship.

When Calderwood left the City Ground and Billy Davies took the Forest helm, Morgans was on the move again, and spent an unforgettable season at Fulham, when the Cottagers reached the final of the Europa League - only to be defeated by Spanish side Atletico Madrid – under Roy Hodgson.

Moving to Swansea City, it was there Morgans first began working with Brendan Rodgers, as the Northern Irishman guided the Swans to promotion from the Championship. When Rodgers left for Liverpool, Dr Morgans was appointed Head of Fitness and Science at Anfield and spent four years there, remaining at the club after Rodgers’ departure in 2015.

Meanwhile, he has held his post with Wales since his appointment to the role of Head of Performance in March 2011, and was involved as the Dragons reached the semi-finals of the 2016 European Championships in France.
