Two female Evertonians are making waves in their respective disciplines. Molly McCann – or Meatball to her friends – is a Mixed Martial Arts fighter with her sights set on the UFC while cricketer, Sophie Eccelstone, made her senior England debut aged just 17 earlier this year.

MOLLY McCANN
Currently boasting a record of 4-1-0 after her recent stoppage victory over American Anjela Pink at the Liverpool Olympia, 25-year-old Molly McCann is targeting a swift rise towards world honours, fighting under the Shinobi banner. But when she is not training and fighting, she is as mad a Blue as you will find.
We like to see our fellow Evertonians do well, Molly!
I am a massive Evertonian. I get to as many games as possible – I was on the coach to Southampton the morning after my last fight. The only time it becomes hard is when I am in training camp – you’re tired, you’re unsocial, you want to be a normal fan but you have to be disciplined.
Who is, or was, your favourite player?
I love Big Dunc. When you grow up and you are a little feisty one yourself, and then you see that he does everything you do and everyone loves him for it, you gravitate towards that.
I have managed to meet him a few times – he was outside my gym once and I had just won by first title, so I grabbed him and made him have a photograph with me. He remembered me from when I visited Finch Farm recently, which was nice.
How was that visit?
It was great to see the training ground and professional athletes on a more down to earth level, and being able to have a bit of a laugh with them. I’ve only seen them on the pitch, but it was nice to meet them off it. They were kind enough to wish me luck in my fight as well.
How did your last fight go? We saw you were in the royal blue!
