Renovation Hacks To Help You Keep To Your Budget

|July 2019
Embarking on one of the biggest investments in your life requires you to be extra savvy with money. Stretch your dollar and plan and pace your finances with these reno hacks
Piece of cake
Refrain from biting more than you can chew from your budget with these three tips
1 Have a proper sit down with your significant other and lay out both of your expectations for the overhaul. Then, get a sense of how much work is needed in the renovation and familiarise yourself with the general costs of materials and labor. You could tap on resources such as the World Wide Web, garner tips from friends with recent experience or acquire quotations from multiple interior designers to get a ballpark figure of how much you might need to shell out.

2 Rashi Tulshyan, the founder of Home Philosophy, also emphasizes the importance of solid groundwork. Her number one advice to stick to a budget is to avoid making too many changes once renovations have commenced. Spend extra time, in the beginning, ironing out your vision and the details that are important to you with your designer. This way, when it comes down to execution, everything you've spoken about has been accounted for. Although they might seem small, these changes may snowball when you least expect it.
3 Give yourself a buffer. Unforeseen circumstances may cause you to blow your budget. Be sure to give yourself an allowance of about 20 percent on top of that preplanned allocated amount. This way, you won’t end up stressing or, worse, end up with an unfinished facelift.

Engaging an interior designer might cost you more, but you eventually get far more than what you paid for
