Interior designers work on countless projects throughout their careers and you can rest assured that they have their favourites. But what makes a project special enough to stand out among so many? We asked some of our favourite local designers to share the top rooms from their portfolios, alongside some of their go-to design tricks and current wishlist items.

What makes this kitchen a favourite of yours?
The kitchen island in this project integrates with the dining table, which eliminates the need for a separate dining area and saves the household extra space in the process.
What inspired the design?
The homeowners love cooking, which inspired us to give them an open-concept space to show off their cooking skills to friends and family.
What are some common design mistakes or missed opportunities you often notice in kitchen designs?
Many kitchens don’t incorporate enough enclosed cabinets, which limits the home’s functional storage space. Make sure your kitchen has plenty of cabinets and minimise exposed displays and ledges.
What’s your top tip for homeowners who like the look of an open-concept kitchen but are worried about cooking smells escaping?
Opt for a good exhaust hood and always open up the windows when you’re cooking!
