The harmony of Japanese and Scandinavian styles fills this new EC unit with much tranquillity and functionality.

We’ve all come to associate the Japanese style with a feeling of calm but to throw in the Scandinavian touch into the picture, now that’s a whole different ballgame. For this married couple in their 30s, it has always been their desire to live in a Japanese-themed living space. While Design Director New Nyew followed their Japanese style design brief to a tee, she also injected Scandinavian style traits to make the space modern and liveable for the long term.
A streamlined and consistent outline of wood effect laminates now shrouds the entire home with a soothing aesthetic. “We decided to use the same laminate pattern for this home. This lends a sense of uniformity,” New says of this simple yet modern design approach. It is paired with a streamlined treatment of lightly-textured wallpaper in pristine white which is reminiscent of rice paper. She adds, “Wallpaper is a good option as it looks more seamless and it won’t leave inconsistent patches and cracks as compared to paint.”
