Kalpitiya, situated in the northwestern coastal belt of Sri Lanka, provides myriad activities for visitors to relax and enjoy: whale and dolphin watching, snorkelling, history and culture.
There's a special traditional handicraft, not so familiar, that can be found nestling on the shelves. Commonly called lacquerware – Laaksha, which consists of simple lines, complex scroll and floral patterns, is achieved by the employment of an extraordinary material and artistic technique.
The Mahaweli Ganga is the longest river in the Island and has the largest river basin. It helps feed a high demand commodity of today – energy. Situated along the Anuradhapura – Trincomalee road, the Kanniya hot water springs are a natural marvel that are intertwined with myths and legends of Sri Lanka.

Initiated a year ago, the Sri Lanka Design Festival is coming up this month with the aim of bringing in a new perspective by organising a design festival that promotes contemporary and traditional design along with developing the local creative industries and export market.
