Sri Lankan folk dance plays a significant role in the country’s culture. Jana Natum, which consists of Kalagedi, Kulu, Savaram, Pathuru and Lee Keli have evolved around the agricultural based lifestyle of the Sinhalese people. The folk dance involves graceful movements and also props such as kala (pot), pathuru (clappers), savaram (handheld fans) and kulu (winnowing fans). Each dance has a traditional costume that may vary according to the region. The dance forms are engaging and includes simple, rhythmic movements.
