His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa begins his second term as the President of Sri Lanka. With a solid foundation laid for peace, unity and prosperity during the President’s first term, the vision for the new tenure is for Sri Lanka to be developed to become a major player in the region and emerge as the Wonder of Asia.
One of the colonial powers – the Dutch – left a valuable legacy, the best-preserved sea fort in South Asia. It is also a living fort, with a small town within. The Galle Fort is one of Sri Lanka’s most unusual tourist attractions.
A true Sri Lankan delicacy, mee-kiri, originates from the south of the country .Our travel and experience gives an account of this special curd being made, from scratch; an art in the making.
Sithulpawwa derives its name from ‘Chiththalapabbatha’, which meant, ‘the hill of the quiet mind’. The monastery, as it stands today, consists of a number of dagabas located atop a rock, as well as ruins reflecting a rich past.
Its preparation is authentically Sri Lankan in style, the term “Devilled” has been derived from a reference to the devil dances – a cultural heritage of the country.
Sailing makes for great recreation as much as it is a sport – some may even consider an art. It is just you, the water, the wind and open space. A little bit of skill doesn’t hurt though.
While snow, frost and reindeer might be a little thin on the ground thanks to Singapore’s year-round heat and humidity, visitors can still make good on that most traditional of Christmas pastimes; a festive dose of retail therapy.
