The best way to go off the beaten track in Sri Lanka is to travel on two wheels. Hanna Lindon sees a different side to the country on a bike ride from Negombo to Dalhousie.

The delicious anoda, a welcome immigrant to Sri Lanka from the West Indies and South America, was introduced to the tropics by the Portuguese and Spanish in the 16th Century. Now thoroughly naturalised, it ranks high on the list of favourite fruits of most Sri Lankans.

Situated in the Southern Province, Katuwana is located where the low terrain ends and the mountainous regions of Central Province begins.

In Sri Lanka, Ayurveda is based on good daily habits, simple village vegetables, yoga, meditation and traditional medicines derived from roots, barks, leaves and fruits.

Tuk tuks, with their limited but highly visible front and rear surface space, have provided just the billboards or canvasses needed for creative compositions and sometimes fractured phrases.
